I have a crack to repair in the back lower bout. It is tight and well closed up. Originally the back had three or four large worm holes that were individually patched and the crack extends up from one side of a patch and down from the other. I am wondering what is the best way to proceed with this. My first thought is to tape both sides of the crack with electricians tape and wick in thin CA.

What finish is on the guitar? If poly of some sort I might use CA, but if nitro I'd use HHG, thinned and then drop fill.

The finish is KTM 9 waterborne acrylic. I think I may go with the CA. Any tips on fitting cleats? I can't get my arm that far down.

If you put a light inside the guitar , can you see it through the cracks ? wonder if they go all the way through or are surface only . If surface only you may not need cleats

Ron to reach use a piece of dowel or similar with the end cut at an angle as a reaching tool. Stick the cleat and a magnet to the angled end with some double sided tape apply the glue to the cleat put in place and put a second magnet on the outside to hold the cleat until the glue dries. Wiggle the dowel free and it should be fine.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Much appreciated.
Wud - lightbulb shows through loud and clear. So I will use cleats to reinforce it.
Thanks for the angled dowel tip Fred. I've used magnets in the past and occasionally struggled a bit to place them. Some times I need someone else to turn on the light bulb.

Ron, the funny thing after posting to you I received a repair job and had to do the dowel thing again, I actually used it without the magnet and did a rub joint with Fish glue and it came out great. It is still hard to get the tape off of the cleat if it does not release and stay with the dowel. I might try inserting some straight pins through the dowel to stick into the cleat to hold it instead of the tape.

This has been the winter from hell as far as guitar cracks go, I try to advise people on humidification but some owner do not seem to care. I got one guitar back that I repaired a crack in January with another crack. The owner checked the humidifier on the furnace and discovered the drum was not turning, probable cause of both cracks.
